Over the Hills and Far Away
A Hurstpierpoint Soldier in Wellington's Army
By popular request this book is now back in print.
Richard Davey left Hurstpierpoint in 1794 at the age of 15 to join the army.
He served in Wellington's army during the Peninsular Campaign.
He wrote letters to his wife throughout this period and these form the main part of the book.
The last chapter outlines his career after leaving the army, as the Parish Clerk of Hurstpierpoint.
The letters were edited by Peter Berresford Ellis, Richard Davey's great-great-great grandson.
