Stuckles
[Project leader: Dennis Wardell]
Stuckles is an ancient farm, centred on a large projecting area of the parish of Hurstpierpoint.
This book will focus on the period from 1764 to 1779 following the death of Farmer John Davey. He left eight small children to be cared for by his brother, Alan Davey and a neighbouring farmer, John Ashfold.
The latter kept a meticulous accounts book for 15 years and prepared a detailed schedule in 1779 of everything in the farmhouse and belonging to the farm. The eldest son Henry took over the farm when he came of age and was recorded as a relation of Richard Davey in our publication “Over the Hills and Far Away”.
